Racism Is Dead -- Al Sharpton Looking For Work

Racism is dead is America.

I'm not saying that we've eliminated racists. There will always be malicious morons. But institutional racism has been buried. How could you believe otherwise? Americans (primarily white Americans) elected an African American man to the presidency with a resume that's thinner than Mary-Kate Olsen. You just have to consider the legitimacy of Geraldine Ferraro's claim that Obama's campaign was successful because he was black. Think about it. No, come on, you're not looking deep enough. Really think about it. Would a white guy with no executive experience, 140 total days in the Senate and no major legislation attached to his name ever win a major party's nomination? Of course not. Race was an issue and in a positive way. America chose an inexperienced African American to leads us. Institutional racism is dead.

But this creates a problem for the parasites who feed on hatred and racial division. Their fame and livelihood is based on Eucharistic victimization in the church of false oppression. They need to keep racism alive because if it kicks the bucket they'll be kick to the curb.

Exhibit A: Al Sharpton.

When I heard about the New York Post Cartoon that had Sharpton blubbering "racist" again I figured that my radio was picking up static from the 70s. The cartoon showed a policeman killing a monkey, which referred to an episode in Conneticut when an officer shot a chimpanzee that had attacked a woman. In the illustration an officer says, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill." See the cartoon here.

OK, first of all the cartoon wasn't very funny, but I got it's point. They used a real (as in "it actually happened") incident to demonstrate that the stimulus bill is so stupid it could have been written by a monkey. Not much in the way of humor but pretty accurate as political observation. You see, Rev. Sharpton immediately started waving his hands to point out that using the actual creature that was killed was making a racist statement about Barack Obama. Forget the fact that if anybody could take credit for authoring the stimulus disaster it would be Nancy Pelosi (who looks rather simian now that I think about it) that doesn't matter. Cartoon Monkey + Obama is president = Racism. Time to March. If only that Conneticut cop had shot a llama.

But this isn't the end of the story. Rupert Murdoch, who owns the NY Post , issued an apology for the cartoon that Sharpton had reinterpreted to his own advantage. But that didn't mean it was over. It couldn't be. Sharpton needed to flare in the spotlight a bit longer. In his opinion the apology (which if you ask me never should have been given in the first place) was "tepid." Weak, but in this economy I suppose I can't blame good ol' Al for trying to breathe life into this controversy. A man has to make a living.

So grab hold Rev. Sharpton and don't let go. Battle cartoons depicting actual events and aimed at white women. Attack tepid apologies. Racism may be dead, but keep dopes alive.

The problem I really have with Sharpton and his ilk are the way they create a "cry wolf" atmosphere. There are profound and subtle acts of racism every day, but people like Sharpton are more interested in maintaining a form a authority that they would rather grandstand than find real solutions for existing problems. It's just so frustrating because it diminishes real issues.

Sorry, there's my rant for tonight so it's off to bed :-)

It's a shame this guy gets away with stirring up problems between races and still gets to have the title reverend.

So funny. I had a conversation about this same thing on my radio show right after the inauguration. With Joseph Lowery's "rhyming prayer" we concluded that he, Rep. John Lewis, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson actually thrive on racism. Although most people in today's generation are moving past racism, they can't move on for the fear of becoming obsolete.

It's not just their job they would lose, it's their entire purpose in life. They can't admit that the civil rights movement has been successful, because then they would be just a bunch of bitter guys with chips on their shoulders.

Of course, their next obvious move is to discredit Barack Obama as a black man...because nothing puts a damper in an endless civil rights struggle faster than a black President.

I've already heard the rumblings of him not being a "real black man"...meaning he has no "slave blood".

Since the white people are behaving and not giving them reasons to claim victimhood, they will just have to go after the sign of progress himself.

First, it seems clear to me that the monkey in the cartoon COULD be someone, or something other than a representation of Obama. Even if a person used a little imagination and saw Obama in the monkey, there are clearly other, innocuous ways to see the chimp. The Post, and countless rational folks, have described the most obvious race-free ways to view the chimpanzee. So why dismiss all of these logical explanations and proclaim guilt?

I voted for Obama. I think he has the makings of a great President. But it bothers me that Sharpton can actually assemble a lynch mob based on what may well be a cartoon conceived without any thought whatsoever of race. It bothers me that the composition of the cartoon can be explained to countless people, yet these same people dismiss all logical explanations and cry "racism!".

Occasions like these make me wonder how mankind suvived to the 21st Century.

    Galileo,
I happily admit to not voting for Obama but we agree that race concerns transcend race and individuals. Men like Sharpton can gather their "bitter" zeolots (loved the use of that word) but they ultimately hurt the cause since they cheapen the cry "racist!"
