Been Thinking About The New Dress Code

I've been thinking about the fact that Obama walks around the Oval Office jacket free, a practice that was strictly forbidden by the likes of Bush and Reagan.

And yes, I know about the hypocrisy behind his explanation:

The New York Times reported on Thursday, January 29 that:
“…the capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat."He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” [funny, didn't he brag about how tough he was because of those cold Illinois winters?] said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

Could this be the same Barack Obama who said last May that: “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times… and then just expect that other countries are going to say ‘OK.’ … That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”

And could this be the same Barack Obama who is looking to sign a stimulus bill that would spend billions of dollars installing millions of “smart meters” that would enable your power company to prevent you from being as comfortable as he is on hot and cold days?

So, yes, he's a hypocrite. But what's really bothering me as I keep thinking about it . . . the last time we had a president who treated the Oval office so casually, he didn't stop at taking his jacket off.

    Strictly forbidden?

    Yes, strictly forbidden

Come on, if you are going to call him out on hypocrisy it is probably best to not become a hypocrite yourself by regurgitating Andrew Card's debunked talking points. I swear, conservatives are just as obsessed with Obama as "Obamabots" are. Aren't conservatives the ones who complained that liberals jumped on Bush for every minor offense? Ah yes, two wrongs make it right.

OK, I went to the Fox news site and there was the pictures of Reagan and Bush jacketless in the Oval office. Come now people can't we argue about something more important than jackets? What can Obama do, really do well, before conservatives say "hey good job Prez".

I think this post just shows how lost the right really is at this point in time. They have sunk so low as to criticize the "hypocrisy" president for not wearing a jacket in the oval office. Come on already. To even bring up a reference to Clinton's issue while mentioning Obama took off his jacket is crazy. I guess the next complaint will be that Obama is playing his TV too loud at night or better yet, Michelle Obama has planted too many things in her garden.

I agree that this is trivial compared to, oh, say ignoring the OCL concerning constitutional law, giving a troubled company 30 days to sell itself to a foreign firm (effectively eliminating any bargaining power) or forcing major banks to keep tarp money they tried to return so you can control their lending policies as though they are a State institution (and, gee, guess the political leaning of the folk suddenly getting the best rates?) . . . but you, especiall you DB, can't blame me for writing about this. I had a perfect opportunity to dust of a Clinton joke. It's been so long and it felt sooooooo good.

BTW, perhaps now you will acknowledge how ridiculous those attacks were against Bush, claiming that he was stupid. Hell, even Dan Quayle appears smarter than the dolt running things now. You had to dig up that "Potato(e)" thing every time you wanted to claim he was dumb. Dohbama gives us a new intellectual low virtually every day, unless he's reading from his faithful teleprompter to make him look smart. I take that back, he doesn't even do that simple chore flawlessly. I mean, reading the wrong lines and thanking himself?
    Nice. Real nice.

    KE,

Your loyal liberals readers do have a point on the comparisons with Bush and Reagan. Carter liked sweaters.

But, as usual, they miss the larger point. When an official openly advocates for the masses to keep their thermostat at a certain level and violates that parameter himself, that qualifies as an conceptual definition of hypocrisy.

They have no argument for that portion of your post.

KE, the teleprompter story of Obama thanking himself is totally false. The guy on stage with Obama messed up reading the teleprompter and was embarassed, so Obama jokingly made the gaffe so the guy would feel better and relax. You can read all about it, it's true, infact I saw the clip first hand.

people seem to miss the point about what Axelrod, I think; Mr. Obama's lived in Illinois approx 20 years. Why would he say "He's cold here because he's from Hawaii?"
I lived in France and they have colder winters than California...I acclimated in a few months.
    That struck me as weird.

I [almost] always enjoy comments from the less conservative folk who visit this because they are usually thoughtful. Sure, there are those who accuse me of having improper relations with farm animals, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

But you're right in that this is a story of hypocrisy. Hypocrisy from a media that picked every nit from Bush while ignoring the current gaffe machine. And the hypocrisy of an administration that tells us to turn down the heat in our homes while they bask in tropical living spaces, that tell us that the most successful Americans need to pay more taxes while they cheat on their own, and that tell us we have to sacrifice while they spend trillions in pork laden handouts to special interests.

Thank you for calling me thoughtful, I do hope I am considerate of the less informds opinions, :-))). Happy Easter!!
