Mark Lloyd: The FCC's New Attack-Free-Speech Czar

The administration is calling him "the new FCC Chief Diversity Officer," but it's unclear whether or not there was and old FCC Chief Diversity Officer. What is clear is that Obama has given America yet another Czar -- one of those ill-defined and unelected Washington power brokers who provide us in political carnage what they lack in qualifications. I'm not sure because my math skills are struggling with the current economy, but I think this would be Czar number 132 for the Obama administration. Guinness has been notified (naturally, I'm referring to the beer rather than the record book because I need a few stiff ones these days).

More frightening than the fact that America now has more Czar's than pimple-backed baseball juicers, is the latest addition's background and intentions. His name is Mark Lloyd and he is . . . well, how do I deliver this to you gently . . . a socialist rube who abhors free speech and is dedicated to the eradication of opposition voices.

In 2006 while at the liberal Center for American Progress Lloyd wrote a book entitled, Prologue to a Farce: Communications and Democracy in America. In the book he presents the idea the private broadcasters (private business) should pay a licensing fees which equals their total operating costs so that public broadcasting station can spend the same on their operations as the private companies do. By doing so he hopes to improve the Corporation for Public Broadcasting currently at $400 Million.

In other words, the wealth should be redistributed from successful private businesses and poured into public broadcasting through taxes equal to the total operating cost of the successful stations. That's just slightly insane since no company in America could survive paying Federal fees equal to their operating costs. But Mark Lloyd isn't concerned about their survival.

It's no coincidence that Obama has put in place a Czar to attack-tax free speech in an arena dominated by conservatives: talk radio. You can bet television will somehow escape this "search for diversity," unless the Oval Office can figure out a way to single out Fox News with more than snarky comments fed through a teleprompter.

In Lloyd's own words:
“The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) must be reformed along democratic lines and funded on a substantial level. Federal and regional broadcast operations and local stations should be funded at levels commensurate with or above those spending levels at which commercial operations are funded. This funding should come from license fees charged to commercial broadcasters. Funding should not come from congressional appropriations. Sponsorship should be prohibited at all public broadcasters.”

In the view of Obama's latest Czar, the market should never determine success. Instead, the government should determine what we can listen to. (sorry for ending that sentence with a preposition, but this frustrates the grammar out of me). The "Fairness Doctrine" may be dead, but the liberal state machine has not given up the fight to suppress the voices of those who oppose their will. They've just taken off the mask of "fairness" and replaced it with false faces of "diversity" and "localization."

Commercial station dollars for public station use has a lot of strings attached and I doubt the public stations would accept it, and in fact would likely fight against it. That's because he also wants to mandate that public stations do what C-SPAN already does in addition to a lot of other programming that few if anyone wants to see. He also wants to be program czar for America. The government already has those stations. They come under the control of the Voice of America and Radio Marti. Before you make assumptions about who benefits, think about it and read all the guy said. Your welcome.

Have we gone INSANE? WHO is fighting these appointments? The media's not even announcing new czars anymore...so THEY know this is BIG TROUBLE.
The fact that a man who's being called SOCIALIST and COMMUNIST uses the term CZAR shouldn't escape anyone, right? The guy's so tone deaf!

So, Khaki, what the H are we going to do? We're watching this stuff happen and grinning and bearing it till it's too late.

Check out Van Jones, I think his name is...AVOWED COMMUNIST and an ADVISOR!

I am 78 and fought communists in Korea in 1951, saw their murderous ways. In 1972, I went into East Berlin and saw their communist paradise. I want no part of this corrupt, murderous type of government. It seems that Obama is loading up his administration with these fools.

I would have never have thought in a million years communism could thrive in the US. They are using capitalism against us like jujitsu. History repeats itself. The people who think this way are sick. Communism doesn't work where ever it's tried. When are the Democrats going to wake up and realise their party has been hijacked by radical communists????

When the Berlin wall fell I knew this was going to be bad. At least back in those days you knew where the communists were. Now they have spread, contaminating every legit Democracy around the world and now they're making their bold move.

    Hugh,
Thank you for your service in Korea. I don't think those who support the opposition silencing tactics of the Obama administration fully understand what is at stake. You do, my friend.

Wow, Twain certainly had a way with stripping away the pomp to reveal the true circumstance.

Z, I'm afraid that there is a great deal of blind insanity these days. Help us, Mr. Twain.

WHT, welcome back! I've missed you!

Anon (1), unfortunately the attached strings can become invisible under the glow of money. Witness the way GM and many banks sacrificed their sovereignty for finacial gain. And regardless of who it benefits, the concept of redistributing profits gained through savvy and success under the guise of "diversity" and "localization" is conceptually immoral in my book. I will always contend that capitalism is the most moral economic idea ever devised.

There is absolutlely no other way to unseat these communist but to vote them all out of office. We as a people must show up in great numbers at the polls to send a messgage that we will not stand for a socialist government. Fidel Castro recently made public statements supporting Obama. What does this tell you? Obama is working straight out of Saul Alinsky's play book, RULES FOR RADICALS. His new appointments all seem to be extreme radicals with the same agenda Obama has set out. History has shown this does not work. This country is on fast track for failure if action and resistance is not implemented now.

His comments about the incredible revolutions in Venezuela simply stated that Chavez realised the power of the media after our CIA used it to overthrow him. He then used it himself to get back in. Lloyd did not take sides. He made an obsevation about the power of the media. Another point is that he is just an advisor. No one has appointed him as a czar or called him one except beck. This is a good example of how the corporate funded media will twist the facts and misquote people to undermine anything that stands in their way of fleecing the American public. If you don't want to be duped, try to verify anything that gets you all fired up. Most of it is crap. Right wing radio and fox tv is not news. It is entertainment, just like profesional wrestling. Its there to get ignorant people all excited with pure bullshit.

I have a feeling that Mark Twain would loathe the current Democrats in power and their desire to control the private sector with massive government. In fact, if you actually read his work rather than Wikipedia you'd find that he said so himself many times:

"I think it is not wise for an emperor, or a king, or a president, to come down into the boxing ring, so to speak, and lower the dignity of his office by meddling in the small affairs of private citizens."

"That's the difference between governments and individuals. Governments don't care, individuals do."

"...no country can be well governed unless its citizens as a body keep religiously before their minds that they are the guardians of the law and that the law officers are only the machinery for its execution, nothing more."

"The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless trouble"

The strategy of most dictators in history is to 1. Control the media 2. Silence the oposition 3. Take away all the guns from the people 4. Control the money supply 5. Use fear tactics and intimidate the people.

Theodore Roosevelt said "The anger of the American people is slow to kindle, but once kindled, it burns as a consuming flame." Let us hope that the anger against this administrations blatant attempts to usurp our freedoms and corrupt the institutions that guarantee them kindles soon enough to stop it. Anonymous 2 is right - the only way to stop this presidents march to socialism (and beyond) is to deny him the one ally he still needs - a subservient and compliant Congress. Vote them all out at earliest opportunity. And by them, I do not mean just the avowed socialists, or the radical left democrats, or even all the democrats. I mean all of them, of whatever party, in the next election, and the next 5 after that. That is the only way we can break the stranglehold on our legislative process held by the "senior members" of each house (read "Senator/Congressman for life"). It is time for the American people to exercise their strongest veto (Vote Every One of Them Out) to show we still run the country, not them.

Everyone needs to look at the influences in the life of Barack Obama.
At an early age he was a Muslim.
His "Mentor", for years was a Communist (Frank Marshall Davis).
He had friends, and associates: Tony Rezko, William Ayers, Bernidine Dorne, Reverend Wright, ACORN, etc.
Are not all of these people radicals, Marxists, Racists, and corrupt Government Funded organizations.
There are more in his past, but these alone should make one pause.
There are currently 30+ Czars, who are being paid by US. We have seen the backgrounds of some of these people, and they are far from mainstream Americans.
His hands will stay clean, because he has a group of loyal, 'fall on their sword', radicals that want the same results he does.
    Democrats are being hoodwinked.
