Remember Ted Kennedy; Remember Mary Jo Kopechne

You know me. Good ol' Khaki leaves politics behind when it comes to tragedy. It's one thing to criticize the dementia of the left, but when it comes to darkest moments of the human condition, sympathy should be our light.

But . . . yes, but, there's a "but" . . . when it comes to Ted Kennedy I can't muster that loving feeling. It's not his politics of destruction. It's not his drunken binges. It's not even the blatant hypocrisy of his faux environmentalism. I can't muster sympathy for Kennedy because of the Black Water.

Quick, word association:
Ted Kennedy -- Chappaquiddick

In 1969 Ted Kennedy got away with killing a woman and the Democrats rallied to his side then and throughout his life. Maybe that's the difference between them and us. Nixon was forced out by his own party. Lott was kicked to the curb by his own party. And neither of them left an innocent woman floating face down in the water without contacting the authorities.

Kennedy claimed until the end that driving his car into a tidal channel on Chappaquiddick Island and leaving his female passenger there to die was an accident, but his story never made sense. His timeline was inconsistent, the tale of his actions that night do not add up, the investigation was poorly executed and the Kennedy money flowed.

So while others may take this time to remember the significance of Ted as a beloved Kennedy, I'll remember the woman he didn't find significant enough to alert the police after he caused her death, Mary Jo Kopechne.

I'm with you. Don't speak ill of the dead but you don't have to speak positively either. I have mostly just left it alone.

Khaki you speak as if you knew MJ or was close to someone who did. I'm sure you never shed a tear or even said a prayer for her, just as I never have for Dick Cheney's hunting buddy who was shot in the face by a Dick. Just as Teddy didn't report the incident until he collected his thoughts, Dick acted in a similar manner. I'm glad for all involved that Harry Whittington didn't die. I just don't why he apologized for Dick Cheney carelessness. I guess when Dick Cheney passes someone can write "Remember Dick Cheney; Remember Harry Whittington."

Made in Detroit, your absolute absence of coherent logic demonstrates why you support the left. Hundreds of hunting accidents happen every year and not only did Cheney apologize, but Whittington said he was sorry for what Cheney's family had gone through for an accident that he was partly to blame for (I won't take the time here to explain game bird hunting and what Whittington did to you). In fact, Whittington later said, "Whatever activities we pursue and regardless of how experienced, careful and dedicated we are, accidents do and will happen."

What was it Kopechne said after the accident? That's right, NOTHING, because ol' Teddy left her for dead.

In Cheney's case the police were quickly on hand, he gave a full report with witnesses (despite your side's false accusations to the contrary). In Kennedy's case he never contacted the police, his story kept changing, oh, and he left her for dead.

I will give Ted credit for stepping up to tell Kopechne's parents that their daughter had died. Of course, he left out the part that he was there and in fact driving the car. They found that out later from the newswire. They found out that the man you now celebrate left their daughter for dead.

Had Dick Cheney left Whittingon bleeding to death in a field while he went home to bed, later changing his story multiple times then I might say that you had a point in comparing the two. But the fact that you can make this absurd comparison speaks volumes about the logic train that got our current president elected.

Chuck, I considered leaving it alone, but that fact that this hypocrit is getting a heroes celebration is too much for me to bear.

This is terrible. How can we say that she died for a good cause???? Did I miss something? She was probably rapped and then left to drown and die. The Kennedys are notorious for coming such crimes. Hate to say it, but it’s true.

Khaki you know we have disagreed in the past, and thats fine, but this self-righteous post about Sen. Kennedys past sins, sins that are between him and God, is beyond even the most partisan. How you on the right can not forget the accident oh so many years ago is just something I can't quite grasp. This great man had 47 years in the US Senate, had a masterful career all of us should praise. Do you and your family, people who read this blog benefit from the laws that were passed by his legislation? Sorry, I just find it shocking how the Christian right has such hate for such a beloved man. If I say anymore I'll just be rambling, so I will go.
